💡The Big Idea

You’re posting. You’re sending emails. You’re updating the website. You’re making offers. You’re trying to stay consistent. Maybe you’ve even spent money on ads. And yet, it still feels like nobody is really paying attention.

That’s usually when the questions start. Is social media dead? Is email not working anymore? Do I need to post more? Do I need better graphics? Should I finally start making videos even though I’d rather reorganize the supply closet than talk into a camera?

Most of the time, the problem isn’t that your marketing channels are broken. The problem is that your message is blending in.

Your customers are busy. They’re scrolling, skimming, deleting, comparing, working, parenting, answering texts, and trying to get through their day. If your marketing sounds like every other business in your category, their brain has no reason to stop and remember it.

That doesn’t mean you need to get louder. It means you need to get clearer, more specific, and more memorable.

🏟️This Week’s Play

Start with one simple test: could one of your competitors put their logo on your marketing and use it without changing much? If the answer is yes, that’s probably why it feels invisible. Phrases like “great service,” “quality you can trust,” and “we put customers first” may be true, but everybody says them. Replace generic claims with language that sounds like a real customer thought, problem, or frustration.

Then get more specific about the outcome. “We help businesses grow” is easy to ignore because it could mean almost anything. “We help local businesses turn more website visitors into booked appointments” gives the customer something concrete to picture. Instead of simply saying “fast, reliable service,” talk about what reliability actually means in their world: “If we say we’ll be there Tuesday at 10, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your whole Tuesday waiting for us.” Specific language gets noticed because it feels real.

Next, give your marketing a point of view. You don’t need to manufacture controversy, but you should stand for something. Maybe you believe businesses are overcomplicating marketing, constant discounting trains customers to wait, or a smaller audience that buys is more valuable than a huge one that doesn’t. A clear point of view gives your message a backbone and gives people something to remember.

Finally, repeat it. Business owners often abandon a good message because they’re tired of saying it long before their audience is tired of hearing it. Strong marketing isn’t about constantly inventing new things to say. It’s about becoming known for a few clear ideas and repeating them consistently. Be specific, customer-focused, opinionated, and consistent. You don’t need more noise. You need a message people actually notice and remember.

🎱AI-Powered Play

Use AI as a fresh set of eyes. Give it your homepage copy, an email, a sales page, or a handful of social posts and ask it to find anything vague, generic, interchangeable, or too focused on the business instead of the customer. Then have it rewrite those sections with more specific language, stronger customer outcomes, and a clearer point of view.

The key is not asking AI to “make this better.” That usually gives you polished beige mush. Give it a specific job instead.

Copy + Paste Prompt

I want you to act as a sharp, customer-focused marketing strategist.

I’m going to give you a piece of marketing copy from my business. Your job is to identify where the message feels generic, vague, forgettable, overly corporate, or interchangeable with my competitors.

First, tell me which phrases sound generic or overused, where the customer benefit is unclear, where the copy talks too much about the business instead of the customer, where greater specificity would make the message stronger, and whether there is a clear point of view or memorable idea.

Then rewrite the copy so it is more specific, more conversational, more customer-focused, easier to understand quickly, and more memorable while still staying believable and credible.

Do not use hype, clichés, or exaggerated promises.

My target customer is: [INSERT CUSTOMER]

My business sells: [INSERT PRODUCT OR SERVICE]

The main problem we solve is: [INSERT PROBLEM]

Here is the copy:
