💡The Big Idea

There’s a funny thing about marketing: the more loudly a business talks about how great it is, the less believable it can start to sound. You can promise exceptional service, better results, and a smoother process, but to a potential customer, those are still claims coming from the person trying to make the sale.

That is why customer testimonials matter. A strong testimonial lets a real customer step into the conversation and say, “I was where you are. I had the same doubts. I took the chance, and here’s what happened.” It gives potential buyers something your marketing cannot create on its own: believable proof from someone who has already made the decision.

The mistake most businesses make is treating testimonials like decoration. They collect a few nice quotes, drop them onto a page nobody visits, and move on. But testimonials are sales assets. Used in the right place, they reduce uncertainty, answer objections, and make the next customer feel safer saying yes.

🏟️This Week’s Play

Start by changing the way you ask for testimonials.

Instead of saying, “Would you leave us a review?” ask questions that pull out a real story: What was happening before you worked with us? What were you worried about? What changed afterward?

You are looking for a clear transformation. “Great service” is nice, but it does not build much trust. A specific story about the customer’s problem, experience, and result is far more believable.

Once you have that story, place it where doubt shows up. Use a value-focused testimonial near pricing, a simplicity-focused one near your call to action, or a results-focused one on a sales page or proposal.

Then reuse it. One strong testimonial can become a website quote, social post, email snippet, or short case study. Keep the customer’s voice natural, add real context when possible, and remember: the goal is not to collect compliments. It is to give the next customer a reason to believe.

🎱AI-Powered Play

What most people don’t know is that customers are happy to share a testimonial. The problem is they often do not know what to say. AI can help you write a simple, personal request that makes the process easy and pulls out a stronger story.

Try this Copy + Paste Prompt:

Help me write a warm, natural request for a customer testimonial.

Here is the context:

  • Customer name: [NAME]

  • Product or service they purchased: [PRODUCT OR SERVICE]

  • Result or experience they had: [KNOWN RESULT OR EXPERIENCE]

  • Where I plan to use the testimonial: [WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA, EMAIL, CASE STUDY, ETC.]

  • Preferred tone: [FRIENDLY, CASUAL, PROFESSIONAL, GRATEFUL]

Write a short message that:

  • Thanks the customer for working with us

  • Makes the request feel personal and low-pressure

  • Explains why their feedback would be helpful

  • Gives them three simple questions to answer:

    1. What was happening before you worked with us?

    2. What was your experience like?

    3. What changed or improved afterward?

  • Reassures them that a few sentences are enough

  • Asks for permission to use their name, company, and photo if appropriate

Keep the message conversational, genuine, and easy to respond to. Avoid corporate language, pressure, or exaggerated praise.
