💡The Big Idea

We’re heading into that time of year when the calendars fill up, the to do list gets longer, and somehow everything suddenly feels like it has to be finished before the holidays. If you’re running a business, you know the drill. Customers need help, campaigns need to go out, the year end loose ends need tying up, and there’s a dozen things you’ve promised yourself that you’d finish before the end of the year.

The temptation is to put your head down and push harder. Work a little later. Do one more thing a day. Tell yourself it’ll slow down after the holidays. But that’s usually how we end up crawling across the holiday finish line completely exhausted.

So this week, we are doing something different. Instead of trying to squeeze another 10% of productivity out of ourselves, we’re going to figure out what deserves our energy and what can wait. The goal isn’t to finish the year with an empty task list. It’s to finish the year feeling good about what you accomplished, with enough gas to enjoy the holidays.

🏟️This Week’s Play

Here is what I want you to try. Grab a piece of paper, open a blank document, notes app in your phone, whatever will help you physically write down everything rattling in your brain. Every project, campaign, every “I really should…” Everything that you want to fix or decided needed to happen before the end of the year.

Get it out of your head and onto something you can see.

Now comes the important part. Look at each item and ask yourself, “What would happen if this waits until January?” Not, “would I like to have this finished” or “Will I feel productive if I get this done?” Ask what will happen if you actually don’t do it.

You’ll probably discover something interesting. A handful of those things genuinely matter. They affect customers, revenue, employees, deadlines, or commitments you’ve already made. Those stay. But a surprising number of the others are artificial deadlines you’ve created for yourself.

The website redesign you’ve been talking about? January will still be there. The new CRM you’ve been meaning to set up? January. Reorganizing your entire marketing strategy because you saw an instagram reel? Definitely January. Once you’ve cleared some of that clutter away, look at what remains and identify three things that would make you feel good about closing the year with.

Then, give yourself permission to maintain everything else instead of trying to improve everything else. That distinction matters more than it sounds.

There is one more move that I want you to make: decide when your work year ends.

Yes, put a real date on the calendar. Without a finish line, the work extends right through the holidays. You’ll answer one email. Check one campaign. Fix one little thing. And suddenly, you’re standing in the kitchen during holiday dinner staring at your phone because someone sent a message that absolutely could have waited.

Set the boundary before you’re tired enough to break it. You don’t need to disappear from the business. You just need to stop allowing it to consume every inch of your life. That’s how you finish strong without feeling exhausted.

🎱AI-Powered Play

One reason we get overwhelmed is because our brains are terrible filing cabinets. We keep dozens of unfinished tasks floating around mentally, and because they’re floating around, they all start to feel equally important.

So instead of asking AI to help you cram more work into the next few weeks, give it the whole mess. Dump in the projects, deadlines, ideas, obligations, campaigns, follow-ups, things you’re worried about forgetting, and all those “I really should get to that” tasks you’ve been carrying around.

You are my year-end priority coach. I’m going to give you everything I think I need to get done before the holidays.

Help me sort my list into four categories: Do Now, Do If There’s Time, Wait Until January, and Delegate or Delete.

Then choose the three most important things I should focus on and tell me the simplest way to get each one done.

Finally, create a realistic plan that leaves some breathing room. If I’m treating something as urgent when it really isn’t, tell me.
